My Big Day Home Alone

August 12th, 2010

This past Sunday my mom and roommate went to some party in Newport that had a stupid NO DOG allowed policy. How rude! As usual I knew something was going on when they were both up and showering at 10am on a Sunday morning. As soon as my mother put on her bracelets (the tell tale sign that she about to leave) I ran into my cage like a good little pup and got situated.

Little did I know that I would be there all day! I slept and relaxed the whole day into the night but at times I got a little restless. I could see my moms laptop sitting on her desk and I so wished I could some how get out and use it. I didn’t even attempt to try because I am not stupid and I know that if I tried to fight the cage that the cage would win. Hello… that is why they call it a cage… you are “caged” in!

I am glad to say that I made it through the whole day and was beyond excited when they got home at night. My mom took me out right away to pee and then I ran home so the three of us could hang out!! Plus I was starving!!

So a word to all dogs out there…. if left alone for you a day do not worry, they are coming back and its really not that bad!

Two New Dog Stores Moving Into Back Bay

August 5th, 2010

Hi,

Earlier today while I was melting in the park I ran into some of my friends. They were with their walkers (since their parents can’t take them to work) and were talking to my mom. I usually zone out during these conversations but my ears perked right up when I heard my two favorite words DOG STORE.

My mom and I learned that there are two new dog stores coming to the Back Bay and both will be on Newbury Street. One is already open and the other is opening at the end of the summer. I promise to put my badge on this weekend and investigate the store that is already open. I have to say though it does seem a little extravagant to have three dog stores so close together and I do love Pawsh Dog Boutique.

Maybe they will offer different stuff which would be cool… Stay tuned!

Adopt Frannie

March 22nd, 2010

Frannie

Bichon Frise, Poodle [Mix]

Size: Medium
Age: Young
Sex: Female

This adorable girl (shown in the picture with her friend Fiona) came from a back yard breeding situation from which we have taken in 24 dogs. This girl may be a Bichon-Poodle mix. She is shy and sweet and needs a quiet patient home where she can learn what living in a house with people is all about.
She will need to be placed in a home with another dog that she can learn from. She has never been without canine companionship. Frannie is working on her house breaking with crate training and she is doing very well. Frannie longs for love and attention. She has so much to learn that she should have a home where someone his home at least part of the day.

Visit our website at www.poodlerescuene.org to complete an application if you’re looking to adopt a poodle in the New England area.

  • Frannie is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Bo- Snow Doggie

February 11th, 2010

Bo, the Obama family dog, plays in the snow in the Rose Garden of the White House, Feb. 8, 2010. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

This amazing photo of the Presidential pooch, Bo Obama, was released this afternoon. As you can see Washington is covered with snow and it looks like Bo, a Portugese Water Dog, couldn’t be any happier. There is nothing cuter than a puppy playing in snow!

If you have photos of your pup playing in the snow send them to backbaypuppy@gmail.com

A Dog Hotel and Spa…Oh My!

February 9th, 2010

The other day my mom made me go to  Four Preppy Paws on Charles Street to get a fleece for our trip. While we were there they told us about their new dog hotel and spa! It sounds amazing. They provide transportation, boarding, daycare, and grooming. The facility even has treadmills for dogs who need more activity… we didn’t even know that dogs could go on treadmills! The place is called Dogwood Cottage. Here is a brief summary taken from their website as well as how to get in touch with them.  To get the inside scoop on Dogwood Cottage make sure to subscribe to the C.L.P Newsletter…

Ask City Living Puppy…

February 8th, 2010

Dear City Living Puppy,

Can you recommend a dog puzzle – or a place to buy one. Anna Nicole is very bored staying inside this winter. She only gets to socialize when she goes to doggy day care two days each week and so on the other wintry days she needs some activity.

Anna Nicole

Dear Anna Nicole,

Winter is the worst for us dogs! I have found some games/puzzles that are interactive and keep me busy! You can also (if your mom has time) have her throw a ball around the house for you to find or hold onto one end of a shoe tie and let you pull from the other. Now for the times when your mom has to work and can’t entertain you here are a few games to keep you busy. Below each game is the link to the website where you can purchase the game.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions you ever have! That is what I am here for!

1. Hide a BEE Hide Plush Puzzle

The instructions say:

  • Your dog will be most attracted to IQube if your scent is on the toy. To best transfer your scent to the toy, we recommend you place it in your laundry basket of already worn, but unlaundered and dry, clothes for a minimum of 12 hours before introducing it to your pet.

  • Next, introduce your dog to the squeaker balls by removing them from inside the cube and playing with them interactively with your pet for a few minutes.

  • Once your pet is engaged and interested in the squeaker balls, place the balls back inside the cube. Squeak them several times after they have been placed inside the cube, and let your dog go from there. After your dog has successfully removed the squeaker balls from the cube, you may replace them repeatedly for maximum fun, entertainment and skill development.

  • Most dogs also enjoy trying to get treats and other toys out from inside the cube.

2. Dog Magic dog game

This game is unique. It is a puzzle treat game from Nina Ottosson that allows you to hide dog treats underneath the bones. Dogs need to figure out how to get to the treats by moving the bones with a nose or paw.

3. Cagey Cube

Like the Original IQube, the Cagey Cube is a colorful big soft puzzle cube for dogs, but this one has cage bars on the sides, making it easier for the dog to see what is inside, and get the toys out.

  • The dog works to get them out, it keeps dogs amused and eliminates boredom.

  • Comes with a pyramid, small soft cube, ball, cylinder and jack that fit inside.

  • Entertains and challenges!

  • Well-made and durable.

  • 6” Square soft cube has squeakers.

New Site Design and Features

February 4th, 2010

I do apologize for not writing this week but as you can see my mom and I have redone the whole site. After installing and testing millions of WordPress Themes my mom was still not satisfied with the design. Luckily the program Artisteer (Artisteer is the first and only Web design automation product that instantly creates fantastic looking, unique website templates and blog themes) was just released for Macs. Needless to say she designed five in the past three days and has barely slept but in the end she went with this one.

More importantly you might have noticed that our tag line has also changed. That is because we now have a free daily e-mail option for subscribers. We understand that many of you do not have time to read my blog every day or search online for reputable pet sitters, dog day cares, pet-travel tips, etc. therefore we have designed a way to still keep you and your pup in the loop!  Our daily emails are short and sweet containing the latest pet findings you need to know.

What do you think?

Dog Off Leash Warning .. Really?

January 27th, 2010

I was on my late-morning walk when the strangest thing happened. My mom was on her phone talking to my grandfather/her dad when I noticed this really cute puppy running so fast it made me jealous, I wanted to join in. I pulled my mom as hard as I could wanting her to pick up the pace but I still couldn’t catch up. My mom must have realized by my fourth tug that I wanted something badly.
She got off the phone and we headed over to the speedy dog who was now being put back on his leash by his owner. My mom and him chatted about how jealous I was that he had let his dog off the leash.
We were all having fun chatting and playing when out of nowhere a big, I mean massive dog with a person sitting on top of him came over to us. My mom told me it was a horse but it looked like a dog to me…anyways… the man on the horse asked the guy we were with if that had been his dog running without a leash earlier. The guy said yes and he apologized for how far his dog had ran, his dog usually stays closer to him. We thought the man on the dog/horse was going to say how cute we both were but we were very wrong!
The guy on the horse, who I found out later was a park ranger, asked the guy for his license. My mom and him chuckled unsure of what license he wanted… dogs don’t have driving licenses.
The park ranger said he needed the mans driving license and then asked if this was the mans first offense. First offense?
A few people had told my mom that the park rangers who monitor the Boston Commons give out warnings for “things” but she had never seen it actually happen.
The man and my mother stood there in shock as the park ranger actually took the time to write out a warning ticket and radio in the mans name and license number. My mom couldn’t help but ask if they put the dogs in jail if they already have one offense and the man made another funny comment. Luckily the park ranger said no there is no dog jail BUT if you have already received a warning it is a $25 dollar ticket for your second offense and a $50 dollar ticket for your third.

CRAZY!!!

So watch out everyone! If you are off your leash, in a part of the park that says NO DOGS or doing anything that you think could be bad then keep your eyes open for a man on a horse! He will give you a ticket!
