Exercise With Your Pooch!

January 13th, 2010

This morning my mom and I went on a long walk. She was freezing and I know she only made it a long one because she was hoping to tire me out so she could work on her book…  Once we got home she  took her many layers off put me on the bed and sat down in front of her computer. She has a routine of checking emails, luckymag and facebook first. She says those are her vices whatever that means.

Well she received an email linking to an article from the New York Times about humans benefit more from walking dogs thank walking with friends. Who knew?? Read to find out more!

New research from the University of Missouri has found that people who walk dogs are more consistent about regular exercise than people who make plans to walk with a human companion.

Dear City Living Puppy,

Glen Wild Animal Rescue, a Mayor’s Alliance Participating Organization, is struggling as a result of the economy to keep its shelter -– home for 30 dogs (many abused and needing long term sanctuary), 12 cats and a humane education program that offers a new lease on life to troubled teens.

Liz Keller, CEO of Glen Wild, has a stellar track record of animal rescue work over 25 years. Liz often finds success where others do not, rescuing and rehabilitating dogs who have been abused, malnourished or forced to fight against their will. Liz’s own dog, Miracle, a shepherd mix, came to her after being buried alive as an eight-week -old puppy:

With her love and care, Miracle and countless other cruelly mistreated dogs and cats are thriving today.

Liz’s work and that of Glen Wild does not stop with animals. Pairing shelter dogs and troubled teens, Liz has created a life-changing program for at risk youth, many from NYC:

Donations are greatly needed to help Liz and Glen Wild remain at their upstate New York sanctuary, continuing their lifesaving work with dogs, cats and teens.

Thank you for your generosity!!

NYC Pets

December 2nd, 2009

Hi guys..

My mom received this letter below and wanted me to share it with you all. Her friend Max and his pup Oliver live in a city bigger than Boston called New York City. Oliver is a city living puppy just like me and that’s why they need our help to save any unfortunate city living puppies. If you live in that big city you should try and attend or donate money like me and my mom are going to do.

Here is the website http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/tails/

Hi Animal Lovers,

Come February 17th we’re having an event in celebration of “I Love NYC Pets Month.” All proceeds will benefit the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. Also, we’ll be unveiling some incredibly cool t-shirts for this wonderful cause and exhibiting some stellar animal art.

Of course, all of you should attend. However, if you’re unable but would still like to make a contribution please email me at:
tails@animalalliancenyc.org for details on how to help with the event financially, and in doing so, save some lives.

We can’t save the over 14,000 animals who are killed in New York every year without your help.

All our best,
Max (& Team TAILS)

The Apple Store

July 26th, 2009

Dear Diary,

Today I went on an adventure with my mom! First she had to pick up a prescription at CVS and was very nervous about bringing me. She didn’t want to leave me at home since she tricked me over the weekend and left me so I had to hide in the bag. The CVS trip was a success so we decided to venture over to the Apple store on Boylston St (a.k.a – not dog friendly street).

When we go to the Apple store my mom quickly put me back inside the damn bag. To be honest I was getting very sick of being stuffed into this bag. It also kept smashing my hair into my eyes which is so annoying. Anyways, my mom carried me up the million glass stairs and found the charger she was looking for. She carried me back down all the stairs and was heading towards a register when my angel appeared.

First of all she told my mom that she had the wrong charger and that she would happily go and get her the correct one. Right before she was walking away to get the charger I popped my head out of the bag. I was losing it folks! I mean how much can one dog take!

Right away her eyes lite up and she started patting me. I decided this must mean I can come out of hiding. I stuck a paw out and began pressing my legs down on the bag. I was about to jump free until I heard the lady say, “We are a pet friendly store if you would like to take him out!”

Hell yeah I thought. My mom reached down and set me free! The store was cool! I got to run around and check everything out. Then I felt my mom pulling my harness towards that dumb register again when once again my angel appeared.

“Here is your charger. I can check you out right here if you would like?” my mom was beyond happy. She handed the lady her credit card and she swiped it on some small little machine she was holding and then told my mom she could email her the receipt! Amazing!

The Apple Store is definitely a 5 Paw place!

Post Office

July 26th, 2009

Dear Diary,

Today I went to the post office and paper source with my mom and aunt. The Post Office was boring because we had to stand in a line and my mom was holding me. Once we got to the front of the line the lady at the counter did say hi to me. Then we left. At least the boring lady behind the huge counter said hi to me but jeez couldn’t she be a little friendlier? I am a cute, cuddly, little puppy.

Next we went to Paper Source on Boylston St. My mom was very surprised at how relaxed they were about me. They have tons of paper, boxes, pens and more on the floor. I was good though and did not eat them just sniffed them. The lady behind the counter here really didn’t make me feel welcomed but they didn’t complain. My mom was happy that they let me walk around the store so that is good.

Now I am home and my aunt just left. Mom is doing work and our roommate is still at work. Think I am going to take a nap and wake up once I smell food. Talk to you all tomorrow…

xoxo
