Two New Dog Stores Moving Into Back Bay

August 5th, 2010

Hi,

Earlier today while I was melting in the park I ran into some of my friends. They were with their walkers (since their parents can’t take them to work) and were talking to my mom. I usually zone out during these conversations but my ears perked right up when I heard my two favorite words DOG STORE.

My mom and I learned that there are two new dog stores coming to the Back Bay and both will be on Newbury Street. One is already open and the other is opening at the end of the summer. I promise to put my badge on this weekend and investigate the store that is already open. I have to say though it does seem a little extravagant to have three dog stores so close together and I do love Pawsh Dog Boutique.

Maybe they will offer different stuff which would be cool… Stay tuned!

xoxo

Top 10 Puppy Training Tips

April 21st, 2010

All You Need to Know

10 Top Puppy Training Tips

10) When trying to settle a puppy into a new home, providing them with a warm hot water bottle and placing a ticking clock in the room where they sleep will help to replicate the body heat and heartbeat of their litter mates and can really help them to relax in their new environment.

9) When taking your puppy to the Vet for its first inoculations, health checks etc, it is good practice to sit with your puppy on your lap and not have him or her on the floor. Don’t allow your puppy to think you are nervous or concerned, instead make a game and even take a toy to amuse the puppy with while they sit on your lap.

8) Always ensure from the earliest possible moment that your puppy is given his or her own, private sleeping place that is not used by anyone else in the family or another pet. Your puppy will benefit from short periods left alone in his or her den with you always returning to reward the pup when he or she is relaxed and quiet.

7) Try to make sure your puppy is entertained adequately for short but regular intervals during the day. Long periods of being left unstimulated may lead to destructive or disruptive behavior later in life.

6) Don’t over-train your puppy. Remember, a one-year old dog is, effectively, the same as a seven-year old person. It is a good rule of thumb to keep reminding yourself would I expect a three, four, five or six-year old child to accomplish some of the tasks I am asking of my pup?

5) OWWWW! Teach your puppy that biting or nipping is not a  pleasant experience for you by reacting as if in pain to their playful nips. Rather than scold the dog, let him or her know that nipping is not a pastime that you wish to engage in. Letting out an over-exaggerated expression of pain will more than likely shock the puppy into ceasing this behavior.

4) Decide early on what is and is not acceptable in your house. If you donít want your pup to use the living-room sofa as a raised dog bed when they get older then don’t encourage/allow him or her to come up when they’re young just because they look sweetly at you.

3) Jumping up. All puppies love to jump out when greeting anyone. Rather than reprimand the pup, simply ignore the behavior and wait until he or she settles down and is not jumping up before lavishing any attention on them.

2) The puppy’s name will be with them for life, make sure they know it by associating it with all things pleasant and fun.

1) From the moment your puppy comes into your life teach him that coming to you when called is nothing short of being the best thing in the world. Puppies can’t resist humans who sit down on the floor with legs spread apart so, while they’re easily persuaded to come by this very simple gesture, make the most of it by using their name, sparingly, but making a huge fuss when puppy arrives.

Confusion

December 14th, 2009

So my mom moved our room around and I have not been able to figure it out yet. The bed is in a new spot and now I am not sure which side is mine therefore I have not been sleeping well. The table that used to be next to the bed has gone some where and that was where she had kept her laptop. Finally tonight I found the laptop. I can only log on quickly while she is doing some work. I just had to tell you what has been going on over here.

My investigating was on hold last week due to the weather but tomorrow I am meeting my friend Duke for a play date. I am also going to Pawsh Dog Boutique on Thursday for a bath and to have my nails trimmed. They are so long and I keep biting them which drives my mom crazy!!

Well she needs the computer again..shocker!! This damn book she is writing is really putting a damper on my blogging! Talk to you tomorrow

What A Week

November 20th, 2009

My mom has been hogging the computer writing her book for that NANO contest I had mentioned before so this has been the first chance I have gotten to write to you. I went to Pawsh Dog Boutique on Wednesday and got a haircut, bath, the whole works. I love them there and all my friends are always there also. This time I did get a little frustrated when they kept trying to trim my beard and clean up my face. My mom and roommate always try to do the same thing to me and I get so mad. How would they like me scratching at their face because I didn’t like the way something looked? Anyways, I came out looking very handsome and my mom was pleased as always! She had left with out me knowing so when she came to pick me up I got so excited and ran into her arms and once again scratched her by accident. I licked her all over her face to make up for it.

Thursday I started not feeling so hot so today my mom took me to the vet. I was nervous at first that they were going to do what they did last time to me. I also did not want to go home with a cone on my head. Last time my mom had left me so I decided I would make her stay with me for the whole appointment so I would be safe.

Luckily she came into the exam room with me and all was going smoothly. I was being calm and letting the doctors check me out but then my mom left. I yelped and cried. Finally I just gave in. Whatever was going to happen was going to happen and I had no say in it.

They did one quick thing (it’s embarassing so I’m not going to share sorry guys) and then led me into the lobby where I saw my mom waiting for me. I jumped from the lady who was carrying me and ran to my mom. I felt a huge wave of relief come over me. She had waited for me and we were going home! The doctor decided to put me on some new dry food and gave my mom a rather large bag of it to take home.

I felt bad for my mom because we had to walk all the way home and she had to carry the huge bag. I kept getting tired and jumping at my moms legs so she would pick me up and carry me. She was struggling but so was I. We compromised and took breaks sitting on the park benches when I needed to rest. I curled in her lap and we sat on the bench together. The whole time I dreaded hearing her say, “Okay let’s go” and putting me back on the ground to walk.

We are home now and my mom is tired and bugging me to get off the computer because she needs to get a certain number of words in for her story. I don’t know what she is talking about but I am not sleepy. My roommate worked super late and is now doing work in her bedroom so there is not much for me to do.

Hmmm… I am sure I will find some trouble to get into! Any suggestions?

xoxo
